Columbia, South Carolina and the Southeast U.S
We desire to reach as many as possible in every part of the Columbia metropolitan area. We are in the process of selling our well used but much too small building on Devine Street and are looking for the best way to build for the future. While renting facilities for the short term, we are seeking the best plan to build or buy a facility that will serve us for the next thirty years or more. We want to continue to see our teens and campus ministries grow and to establish stronger outreach ministries to Fort Jackson. Having planted churches in Charleston and Greenville in the 90’s, we now expect to help begin campus ministries throughout the southeastern United States as well as establish new congregations in many other cities throughout South Carolina (Spartanburg, Florence, Myrtle Beach, Sumter, Orangeburg and Aiken/Augusta).
Africa and the Caribbean
Over the last four years the Columbia church has given over half a million dollars through our annual missions offerings. Out of this generous contribution, the Columbia church supports churches in Harare and Bulawayo, Zimbabwe; Maputo, Mozambique and Luanda, Angola as well as a number of smaller churches in southern Africa. In partnership with the New York City church and several southeastern churches, we support Damian and Karlene Jeanbaptiste as they lead the church in Bridgetown, Barbados and help strenghten churches throughout the Caribbean. We also have helped establish the new Clemson Foothills Church by giving $25,00 per year toward that new effort. Finally over the last several years we have been able to send 12 of our members to preach, teach and encourage churches in Southern Africa. Future plans include continuing to send members not only to Africa but to the Caribbean and plans to plant additional churches in South Carolina and the Southestern US.
Helping the Poor
In 1994 members of the Columbia Church of Christ started HOPE for Kids, a program to promote immunizations throughout South Carolina. Today, HOPE worldwide South Carolina, has grown to become an award winning program offering a wide range of educational and health care services to children and seniors as one of the largest and most successful non-profits in the state. Besides financial and volunteer support of HOPE worldwide, South Carolina, members of the Columbia church support Homeworks, a program that serves seniors so that they can remain in their homes and a variety of other programs to help the poor and needy.
