Who leads the Columbia church? |
We believe that each congregation of believers that has the maturity and desires to be self governing should be led locally, if possible. We also believe God has appointed in his church evangelists, pastors and teachers (Eph. 4:11) to prepare God’s people for works of service and to lead, direct the affairs of, oversee and shepherd the flock (Titus 1:5, Acts 20:28, I Peter 5:2). Consequently, in the Columbia Church of Christ, the elders and the evangelist work together as a team to bring the members to maturity, to help the church to grow and to help each part do its work. Even with the confidence this ecclesiastical team approach gives us, we still value and seek the input of every member, particularly the large number of spiritually mature disciples we are blessed with here in the Columbia church. We also crave and seek input from other congregations and their leadership teams, particularly those who we respect and have strong relationships with and whose life and doctrine calls us higher.
Our evangelist is JP Tynes and his wife Pat leads the women’s ministry. JP and Pat have served in the ministry for over 20 years in Maryland, Kansas, Florida and Massachusetts and ten years in secular work in Atlanta, Georgia. They moved to Columbia to begin leading the church in 2004. Our current elders are Paul Leas, Paul Ramsey and Jimmy Thomas. Paul Leas was appointed in 2003 and Paul Ramsey and Jimmy were added in 2007.
